They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Na so was. Kommentar It's good to know that your local IT department is able to override the list of blocked sites.
I once worked for a company where the local "censor" told me that he could not override the list furnished to them by the software provider. In order to get me the files I wanted, he personally retrieved them using his system at home and emailed them to me. Helpful administrator, but idiotic software. I have also found that a lot of tools trigger based on simple keyword search. I once found a site blocked because in the comments section to an article, someone had used the word "pussy" in the sense of "wimp". I was puzzled that this harmless site had been blocked and stared at it on my machine at home for more than five minutes before I spotted the offending term.
I assume that software was stupid enough to even trigger on "pussyfooting", but I didn't try.
Thus my question whether news sites could be flagged and you would get into trouble because they may be reporting on "Pussy Riot" or mention methods of birth control or other nefarious contents of that nature. I wouldn't be so sure about a lack of screening for politics, and can imagine it might not be the best idea to conduct research on anarchists or the American Communist Party from your computer at school :- Yes, Ben Franklin would be spinning in his grave at about 10K RPM!
Kommentar Good evening! This completely arbitrary censorship really sounds highly moronic. It contradicts the whole idea of a globally accessible system of communication and databasing. They should rather block sites of creationists, religious fundamentalists, tea-party followers, and other obscurantists. Would it still be possible to place online orders for firearms from school connections?

I actually wouldn'd be astonished if it really was. Since I appear here very sporadically, probably nosnail would wonder about prolonged absence anyway. Will be off to Patagonia all of next week. In two hours a friend will collect me to get to the meeting point and then travel with the group of local birdwatchers to the airport. In the middle of the night. Preposterously early.

Wonder if I should try to get a little bit of sleep. Best wishes to everyone and good night! Kommentar Amazing to read about the possibilities and problems concerning access to websites which could be helpful but also dangerous in some cases. Not a nice job for the IT-department, but it makes life not easier for people who need those pages e. I recall that some domains even had a kind of "back door" with a special name or IP-address We had a nice meeting of LEOs from the Frankfurt area and intend to have another one after the holiday season.
We will see! Kommentar Hi walther! Good to hear you had a nice trunk table! Robert : "in my own time" - in meiner Freizeit But you do not think about "trunk table" seriously? And nobody got drunk, I had to drive :- Another grey November Sunday On my way back home from Frankfurt I was surprise how much Christmas decoration was already set up.
It is happening earlier every year. I like some of it, but sometimes it is just too much. Kommentar "trunk table" is about in Leo as a 6-gear word for Stammtisch Kommentar I sort of followed shhh's advice and read Fforde's first book "The Eyre affair". Actually, I'm halfway through the second book where I met the Cheshire cat working as a librarian as mentioned by Carullus.
Must be a great library, by the way ;- The part of shhh's advice I did not follow was reading the original "Jane Eyre" again. I had read it many years ago, had neither liked nor disliked it and did not want to read it again. Instead I galnced over the Wiki summary to refresh my memory. It's probably good to remember some of the original names of Jane Eyre while reading the Fforde book, but I believe that the latter can even be read in the absence of knowledge about the original story.
One may miss some allusions but the main story can stand for its own and major events of the original are explained in the Fforde book. I really enjoyed the first book, it was funny and also quite suspenseful in the end.
About this book
I learned a few new words I will probably forget very soon e. No problems in understanding those sentences, but I had not expected that kind of construction in English. I would have guessed that something is missing in both sentences. In particular the second one sounds so Denglish to me.
I can't tell you exactly why and I'm probably completely wrong, so I would like to ask the ENS whether those sentences are normal everyday constructions to them.

I don't put this question into the language lab as it is probably not of general interest. Kommentar btw, I looked in "Duden: Richtiges und gute Deutsch" meanwhile, and "teilnehmen" obviously isn't separated and capitalized when both parts are next to each other.
There is the example sentence: Sie nahm an dem Kurs t eil ; and I'm quite sure in a sentence like Robert's, it is written together How on earth should anyone know which compound words are separated and how capitalization is dealt with? Or both depending on context? Some are definitely possible in both variations, depending on context: zusammen kommen - both parties arrive at the same time zusammenkommen - to meet I stop that here before my poor brain gets all twisted Maybe the German teachers know more here than me poor native speaker? Kommentar hm us, I don't think we use "Kekse" in German for cookies, at least not for those left behind by Internet applications - they are simply cookies.

Ich jedenfalls nicht. Vielleicht Robert. I visit him every spring. Every year we eat ham for Thanksgiving. WK: Would it still be possible to place online orders for firearms from school connections? Dermassen dumm ist das. Kommentar Leo, how awful! I'm feeling with you! I do hope you find a good solution for Thor tomorrow! Are you saying that he is then untreated so far and possibly in pain?
Really no emergency vet about on the weekend? That's terrible! The poor thing! Kommentar I hope all the best for Thor. But do not torture him and yourself if nothing can be done A milky sunlight on this November morning in Germany. Going to work in another room today and get my feet on the ground.
